Interpretation Today
Profession of an interpreter nowadays significantly differs from the one 20 years ago. The reason for that is the increased intensity, as well as the constant expansion of the topics. Orientation to a certain terminology increases the quality of translation. It also creates restrictions in obtaining new offers, having in mind the competition on the market.
Discussions on some of the most complex topics (such as medicine, metallurgy, polytechnics, oil and gas industry, etc.) now take place at international conferences with the help of simultaneous interpretation. Usually there are speakers from different countries. Each of them wants to tell as much as possible about their topic, such events often look like a competition in the tongue twisters’ pronunciation.
Modern interpreting (and by that we mean both simultaneous and consecutive) in 80% of cases takes place in suboptimal and unforeseen working conditions. Interpreting more and more looks like one of the extreme sports in which only athletes with strong nerves and those who are not perfectionists can compete. 🙃
Every interpretation requires from the interpreter not only extraordinary knowledge of the language, but great concentration, speed and special skills too.
