• Simultaneous interpreting as the most common type, which includes direct simultaneous interpretation of a speech or presentation. This form of interpretation usually requires the use of special equipment (interpreting booth), due to the fact that simultaneous interpreting requires undivided concentration and complete isolation from ambient noise, as well as previous preparation based on previously delivered materials by the client. Simultaneous interpretation is extremely demanding and tiring, which is the main reason why at least two interpreters should cover one meeting and take turns after every 30 minutes of interpreting.
• Consecutive interpreting as the oldest type, which includes interpretation that follows on once a speaker finishes one part of his speech. This technique doesn’t require special equipment like simultaneous interpreting but it can also be tiring due to the necessity to convey not only the speaker’s words but his emotions into another language.
• Chuchotage as the “silent” technique, which includes whispered interpreting. Whenever a certain event requires chuchotage, an interpreter is obliged to accompany the guest party and whisper translation so that only they can hear it. This form of interpreting usually develops into consecutive interpretation during the meeting.
• Remote interpreting – a type of consecutive interpreting through audio or video connection.
